5 of 5 people found the following review helpful It does the job, but depth calculation is manual, By Pony (Texas) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Tempo 508S Wire Finder Mini Locator (Tools & Home Improvement) This does what it says it does. One word of caution, the unit does estimate the depth, but not without some manual input. There is no display that shows depth, to calculate the depth you must first locate the wire then intersect the wire at 90 degrees whilst holding the probe at a 45 degree angle. So, you find you wire and mark its path. The you stand at 90 degrees to the found wire and hold the probe on the ground at 45 degrees whilst moving towards your found wire. If it makes a tone when you are 2 feet away the wire is two feet below ground. It is a crude triangulation method. Reasonable price...on Amazon, at least., By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Tempo 508S Wire Finder Mini Locator (Tools & Home Improvement) I've wanted a wire tracker for years, but was not willing to pay the ridiculously high prices on the models like the Greenlee 501 Tracker II, which run anywhere from $600-900, for no apparent reason other than profit margin, I might add. This unit is just as useful as the overpriced models with the receiver antenna at the end of a tube with a handle, which is the only real difference here. I've used a 501 many times before, and this little unit is just as useful and capable. Also takes up less room in the truck! |
